Why Recycle?

Electronic waste is one of the largest growing issues in the nation. One item in particular is the recycling of CRT’s (Cathode Ray Tubes). These are the glass picture tubes found in computer monitors and televisions. A large amount of toxic materials, such as lead, phosphorous and mercury are found within a CRT.  Anywhere from 2 to 5 pounds of lead can be found in each CRT.  When a CRT is sent to a landfill, the CRT inevitably becomes crushed or broken, causing hazardous material to be released into the soil and air. These toxic materials will eventually find their way into our water supply. The health risks associated with human contact of these toxins can be deadly. Some of the health risks associated with improper recycling of a CRT can include respiratory and neurological problems.

Here at City Recycle we recycle CRTs properly, by partnering with a company that specializes in the recycling of CRT’s.  The CRT’s are crushed in a HIPPA filtered room. The glass then goes thru a series of baths to remove all harmful toxins.  The glass is then crushed and eventually reused.  All other electronic E-waste is broken down and recycled in house.
